A little photography maybe?

The first bunch of posts I made were decidedly food-centric.  So now to switch gears a bit and talk about some photography!

Now I am no professional, and frankly I don’t know much in the way of photography jargon, but I am keen to learn.  I figure the best way to learn right now, is to practice.  So I do.

And take pictures of food.  That I make.  And PRESTO we are back to food!  Dammit, I think I have a problem.  Let’s leave food behind for now.  JUST FOR NOW!

I got my camera as an EXTRAORDINARILY generous gift from my parents for my 30th birthday.  It took me about a month to actually use the thing.  Why you ask?  Good question.  I was terrified!  Well maybe not terrified, but certainly intimidated.  How could I possibly know what to do with the thing?  The last photography I had done was in high school and that was on a very different machine than the one resting delicately in my hands.  I needed help.  Luckily, I know LOTS of smart people.

I called up my friend Mikey and he was excited to help me out with my camera woes.  We got together one weekend (after a couple days of cancellations) and headed to one of the COOLEST places in Toronto.  The Don Valley Brickworks.

The Brickworks is a great and scenic area very close to the Don Valley Parkway.  The abundance of masonry, both crumbling and intact makes this former brick factory a veritable jackpot of photo ops.

Flowers are invading the vacant lot, softening the edges of the huge looming buildings.  I started shooting immediately.  It was impossible not to!

Then my trusty friend Mike brought along this amazing little things he found online.  They are magnifying lenses that attach to the front of the camera!  A poor man’s macro lens!  HUZZAH!  So I found the first insect I could and stalked that little bugger onto every flower I could!

So after all the macro pics, my eyeballs felt that they were going to pop out of my head.  I’m not used to all this focusing!  So I took some easy on my eyeballs pics…

I apologize for just filling this up with pictures, but this is the picture part so I guess it makes sense.  Having said that, I will just throw down some pics from our wander through Cabbagetown.  It was an awesome day and I learned a ton!  Any questions or helpful comments??? PLEASE DO!
