Canada Day 2010
I am back! I am the worst blogger in the history of blogging I think.  But here I am, writing a quick little diddy about Canada Day.  Well, the cupcakes I made anyway. Canada Day in Bath, Ontario is the biggest event of the year.  The tiny village explodes with people.  Vendors, food, jewellry, home made everything.  Its awesome! So in honour of Canada Day, I made some delicious Red Velvet...

Auction Cupcakes!! (and yummy breakfast)
I was asked to make some cupcakes for a fundraiser in the village where my parents live.  I was nervous at first, but that passed quickly into Pants-crapping terror, especially when I was still awake at 4am the night before building them… All that night I was cursing the whole thing and telling myself how lame they were and how lame I was for doing it.  I finally finished and packed them...

The Mother's Day Weekend
I’m a mama’s boy.     I know it.     She knows it.     Everyone knows it.   And I own it… So suck it if you don’t like it.      My moms is the bomb, or A bomb according to her.  She is one of the nicest people you will ever meet in your life, just ask anyone who knows her.  Literally, anyone.  We laugh like maniacs and I tease her incessantly, some people think too...

Makin' brunch for some great old friends...
Do you have old friends?  I don’t mean friends that are seniors, dropping their teeth and hating the cold.  I mean friends from your childhood that, no matter how long its been, you can pick up like you never missed a beat?  I have to say I am so fortunate to have a good group of those friends.  We have been through so much together, and I wouldn’t give that bond up for the...

Katey's Birthday, Dad's Birthday and Easter... A...
I made the trip to my parents house this past long weekend to celebrate a triumvirate of events.  They all required delicious food, so that was just a bonus. Saturday was the actual day of my Dad’s birthday, which he graciously allowed my niece’s party to take the lime light.  HE got a DELICIOUS cake my aunt made for him, but I didn’t get any pictures of it… Dang it. ...

Season Premiere!
A friend of mine and I were talking about our excitement for the upcoming season premiere of The United States of Tara.  Its an AMAZING show from Showtime that depicts a woman with multiple personalities, and her complex, yet loving, family. We then decided that we should have a little get together!  So, since cupcakes seem to be in the forefront of my life lately, it seemed only logical for me...

Weekend at the parents...
I spent the last weekend in the lovely village of Bath.  It sprawls along the shore of Lake Ontario about fifteen minutes west of Kingston.  My parents have lived there for the past eight or so years, the last few of which they have spent in a big, old house they are renovating into a bed and breakfast. I love visiting there, its so relaxing.  Not to mention my mom and I get to cookin’! ...

The comfort of white bread...
Tonight I made white bread from scratch for the first time.  I don’t know why but the idea of making bread was COMPLETELY intimidating!  Turns out, it was quite simple.  Oh and the smell alone is enough to make me want to have one in the oven baking AT ALL TIMES!  It came out slightly more dense than I expected, but it tastes perfect!  I am really getting the hang of this baking thing!  Next...

The Iron Cupcake!
Today was the day!  I had been thinking and preparing for the Iron Cupcake for weeks, and now its over.  Just like Christmas or a birthday, it’s one of those things that takes forever to arrive, and then in an instant, its done. First off, let me say that it was a great time overall.  Though, if you had seen me earlier in the morning, you wouldn’t have ever believed the day would have...

Practice...
Just a short entry… I’ve been practicing for the competition on Sunday and I have to say I am crapping my pants just a little.  I’ve made 3 different batches of cupcakes this past week, and I’m not sure if its going to work out. I know, I know.  Its just a cupcake competition but there is something inherently terrifying about putting yourself out there to be judged...

I'm taking a chance!
One of my favourite places in the world is For The Love Of Cake.  Its a cupcake/cake bakery in Liberty Village in Toronto.  (Un)Fortunately, it is extremely close to my work!  So when I am at work and get a hankerin’ for one of the best cupcakes on the planet, I can zip over and get one!  Great right!  Except I eat too many :) Anyway, that lovely shop is hosting the Iron Cupcake!  It is...

Cupcake crazy!
I have been eating way too many cupcakes… I was doing so well with the weight-loss and then bam, the cupcake.  It infected me right down to my soul. And I loved it. But I am getting my act back together and so I thought I would take one of my dinner dishes and have some fun. So may I present… The Ground Turkey Meatloaf… cupcake!  With Mashed Potato “Frosting”! ...

Vanilla Cupcakes. Simple. Yummy.
I don’t know why, but I seem to ALWAYS prefer vanilla cake to chocolate.  Don’t get me wrong, I am a stone’s throw away from homicide when I want me some chocolate, but when it comes to cake, vanilla is my favourite. So I made some today (Sunday) just cause I like making them.  Made a DELCIOUS frosting too.  Tinted it yellow, again, just cause I wanted to.  Then I busted out the...

Sorry, it's been a while...
I have completely slacked, I will admit it.  Its been way too long since my last entry and I am going to work my ass off to get back into the groove.  So here is a story from the Valentine’s Day/Family Day weekend. I told me sister I would watch her dogs for the weekend so that she and her husband and daughter could go to Ottawa for the weekend.  So I packed up my jeep and headed up to...

The Creation of Mr. Stove...
I asked an incredibly talented friend of mine to come up with a cute little mascot guy for me to use on my blog.  It would be something cool for me to use, almost as a brand and who knows, maybe one day it will show up on a t-shirt, apron, or maybe even a sign on a store.  Ohh that is a nice dream. So I told him that I was thinking along the lines of a retro style oven, but in a cute, cartoony...

Friday night with some ground turkey chili.
Its Friday night. I’m 30 years old. You think I would be out on the town, whoopin’ it up!  Shakin’ my money maker!  Gettin’ my drink on! But no, I am at home cooking chili and watch Julie & Julia for the umpteenth time.  Lame?  Most definitely.  Delicious?  Indubitably. I don’t have a recipe when I make chili, I just kind of throw things together and it...

Martha Stewart's Peanut Butter Cupcakes
I have already said I love cupcakes.  We are not surprised by this.  I was surprised, however, by the utter bliss I experienced after sampling one of the Peanut Butter Cupcakes the incomparable Ms. Stewart told me how to make. In her guide to all things cupcake, Martha Stewart’s “Cupcakes” book is continuing to leave me in a state of shock and awe.  The intricacies of some of...

My first buttercream...
I made cupcakes tonight… I need practice.  But I will get it!  As I was making the Swiss Buttercream Frosting, I was CERTAIN I had screwed up royally and the amount of butter in it alone made me think that I had just wasted 10 dollars in ingredients!!!  But as my trusty Kitchen Aid Mixer (I think it needs a name) did its thing, it all smoothed out, but it still needed more beating.  THEN it...

A Cupcake EXPLOSION!!!
Cupcakes are EVERYWHERE! Those delightful individual portions of awesome have taken the world by storm and they are being welcomed with open arms. Where there was once a cake, tier upon tier, is a gorgeous array of delicately decorated domes.  Every flavour, colour and theme you can think of have invaded the party scene.  Hell, if you’re me, they’ve even invaded our everyday lives. ...

Molly Continues!
Here is another chunk of the story :) Enjoy! Her tummy rolled and everything in her body told her to run downstairs, out the door and away from that house.  Only one part, apparently the more powerful part, urged her to stay and find out what it was.  She once again ascended the ladder into the attic, slower than the first time.  Taking a deep breath, she walked at a steady, albeit shaky pace to...

Throwing it out there...
I’m leery to put anything I’ve written up here but I figure, why not. If someone is douchebag enough to steal it from me, then there’s nothing I can do about that. I just hope that people enjoy it enough. So here is the beginning of a story I have tentatively titled; “Molly”. I have had the story shooting off in many different directions but can’t seem to...

A little photography maybe?
The first bunch of posts I made were decidedly food-centric.  So now to switch gears a bit and talk about some photography! Now I am no professional, and frankly I don’t know much in the way of photography jargon, but I am keen to learn.  I figure the best way to learn right now, is to practice.  So I do. And take pictures of food.  That I make.  And PRESTO we are back to food!  Dammit, I...

Sunday afternoon blahs...
Sunday afternoon. The time of the week that is expressly created for doing any of the three things that this blog is all about. And yet.  I am, quite effectively, doing none of them.  Well, I suppose I am writing.  So that is something.  But, I should be busting out my trusty Kitchen Aid Mixer (best invention ever) and whipping up something fun and delicious!  While I am whipping up this delight...

And so it begins...
Hello everyone! This is the first of what I hope to be many blogs on some of my favourite things.  I’ve wanted to try blogging for years, but had a terrible time deciding what to blog about.  The interweb is positively  chock full-o-blogs on everything and its dog.  So what could I possibly blog about? Writing?  Cooking?  My new passion for photography?  Dating??  Why would anyone care...
